Microsoft OneNote App Reviews

I would’ve given this 5 stars...

The version for Mac doesn’t have some of the great functionality that the PC version does. I would love it if it would talk to Outlook so I could tag meeting notes to the calendar and stuff like that. Aside from it, I really love one note.

Almost perfect!

Love this application and its intergration with Apple devices. My one issue is that when you set up a notebook you’re given the option to house the data locally or in the cloud. After making this initial selection you cannot alter it and this is troubling because only cloud data will appear across devices.

Wish I had this in high school...

I’m not an expert at using OneNote yet, but I really like how easy it is to organize your thoughts.

Great app for students

Great app and keeps all my notes organized with tabs for classes and everything else in life.

OneNote is the BEST product ever from MS

I’ve been using OneNote since it came out. The fact that I can now use onenote across all my PC’s, MACs, and phones makes it the MOST used tool I have. I happily paid for the license and have never regretted it. The only thing I would want is all features available in the Windows version to be accessible in ALL platforms.

Don’t use OneNote for Mac if you don’t have a PC too.

Don’t get me wrong, I love OneNote. I use it on my surface, my desktop ,my iPhone, and my MacBook. But the App Store version is missing a lot of features. The main ones I wish it had were those that allow you to change the page layout under the “View” tab. On Windows I have a lot more freedom as to what my pages look like. You also cannont type as freely as you can on Windows. For example, if I start a text box on windows I can type away, and then when I want to place a new textbox I just click somewhere else on the screen. But on Mac it doesn’t allow me to open another textbox at all, let alone with just one click. There are lot sof other things I’ve noticed that make the Mac version worse, but I don’t have time to talk about all that stuff. OneNote is still awesome though. I’m still going to keep using it. But if you don’t have a Windows computer to also use OneNote on, don’t use it. You miss out on way too many features that other not apps do have.

great application

I love the apple conversion of this program however I cannot print anything to one not like i could on my pc. I love that I can access it from any device though.

onenote for everything

i use onenote for all my notes and it is easily integrates with outlook and one drive.

iphone app and right click issues

I love this app but it never syncs with the onenote app on my phone. also i can’t right click in the app anymore

As a High School Teacher & Tech Person…MS is so close...

Ten years ago I used a Tablet PC at my first school, and enjoyed a bunch of the functionality, but jumped at the chance to pick up a Macbook Pro and slowly but sure convert all the teachers at my school over to Apple Products. Since then, we installed numerous SMARTBoards and were humming along with our usual problems and as teachers flipped their classrooms, I helped them work on Explain Everything and utilize an iPad. After a recent school visit, I was impressed by the use of recording full lessons, and with our Office 365 license I decided to give Notebook a try because I dealt with multiple devices and computers everyday (Home computer, School Computer, Laptop, iPad & iPhone). It’s suprisingly capable in numerous ways: the infinite whiteboard space, the ability to sync within a couple of minutes, the truly cloud based saving of whole notebooks, and ease at which I could share days worth of notes with all my students. The full OS X version of this app is about two upgrades away from being the reason we (as a school) move away from SMART Technologies prepackaged interactive whiteboard software and move to MS OneNote. The Mac Version would benefit immensely from a “Drawing” tab on the ribbon which enabled used to draw using whichever method necessary (Wacom tablet, Interactive Whiteboard Pens, etc…). Another ideal upgrade would be to allow for multiple instances (windows) of OneNote to be open at the same time, so that cutting/pasting items and preparing lessons would be that much easier. It would be nice if they clarified their permissions, and allowed for memory in password protected sections of the notebook. Small features that are missing also include “paper style” or “page templates" on the view tab. Overall hugely beneficial because of the collaborative experience and the relatively low “lag” rate (about 20 seconds) between multiple devices. For schools this could be the linchpin of their online Microsoft Classroom experience, they just have to follow through and enable a number of features that make it awesome on other devices. All of that said, I’m converted and piloting the experience for our school. After a week it seems to be well worth the effort, and I’ve already convinced my partner, who doesn’t have the same patience with technology as I do to trying out some of the features.

Works like a charm

I love this app. It takes notes, and that’s what I’m after.

Great app for organizing ideas!

As a Mac user I was totally ready to hate this program. I’ve tried Evernote and Google Keep, but this is the one that I keep using after the first week! The ability to drop clickable links and pictures and articles and .pdfs means I can organize all the digital elements of a project in one place. I also love the layout and the colors, I enjoy opening this app and using it throughout the day. I use it for work projects, but also volunteer projects.

Almost perfect

Syncs accross Windows, mac, iPhone very reliably. While many utilities claim to be interplatform compatible getting one that works solidly in practice is the exeception. I use it for everything, shopping lists, logs, notes on work projects, references like books, restaurants I don’t want to forget and just thoughts I want to capture at the moment. It has replaced 95% of my paper notes and note books. It does have one weakness the search fuction. On a computer it is awkward but useable. On an iphone it is deficient in that the search will only take you to the page not the actual entry you are looking for. If the page is long you are still challeged to find what you are looking for. It has a good handwriting recognition function but only on a windows PC they need to bring it to the MAC and iPhone to make it complete.

Brilliant

Use it to keep track of all sorts of valuable info (account IDs, receipts, TODO lists, recipes, etc.) in different notebooks. I love the fact that it’s synchronized across devices and saved in the cloud so the info will never be lost. You can also search for a keyword across different notebooks which makes lookup easy. In short an amazing product.

Not bad for my class notes

I really enjoy One Note for all that it can do for classes. It it easy to copy and past information from my e-books or information I find in online databases. Plus the recording feature for lecutres is great. I can always pick up where I left off with ease. I have used OneNote for the past 3 years of law school, and it is only getting better.

This is great

This a great app. I love use it and it comes in great for note taking within my college courses. It is very easy to use and is a phenomenal resource. Dont have to save anything, it just saves itself. OneNote is very reliable and has great use.

One Note

Great way to keep notes on everything you need to remember.

Great app - i use this all the time!

I love OneNote, and the Mac version is quite fantastic. This is a lifeline for me, and the regular updates have made it extermely stable! I would highly recommend this application still.

Great app

I love using it for storing all of my notes from school. I just wish I could have more storage. Also, better text editing would be good.

Fast, pretty, ubiquitous

Many people argue over which “notes” application is better: Evernote or OneNote. As a user of both, I say that they are different beasts altogether. Whereas Evernote makes for a great general “filing cabinet” of reference material, OneNote is actually good for… taking actual notes. It is set up like a notebook, with the freedom to write and draw as you please, and many handy one-click styles to set things apart on the fly. Add to this the falling-off-a-log easy syncing and sharing, and it leaves Evernote in the dust as an actual, digital notebook. It’s fast, looks great (and your notes will, too), and it runs everywhere, with almost exactly the same feature set. Highly recommended.
